Welcome to the Bruce Arms

A traditional country pub in Masham, the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales.

The pub is run and owned by Gemma and Chris with support from family and friends.

We are dog friendly throughout the pub and have a wonderful beer garden at the rear. The huge beer garden has a spectacular outlook over the River Ure and Lower Wensleydale, earning the pub the nickname ‘the pub with a view’!

A warm welcome awaits locals and visitors alike.

As Masham is famous for it's two brewery's you will find Black Sheep and Theakston Ales on draught with a guest beer such as Timothy Taylors Landlord.  A wide selection of lagers, ciders, wines and spirits are also available.

A BIT OF HISTORY

The pub takes its name from the Bruce family a traditional Scottish clan. The Bruce clan was a Royal House in the 14th century and produced two kings of Scotland, including Robert the Bruce. Robert the Bruce led the army that defeated the English at the Battle of Bannockburn, which was a significant event in Scottish history.

The pub featured heavily in the ITV Series Heartbeat.

In 1985 during work to extend the cellars an ancient burial site was discovered. The North Yorkshire County Council Archaeological unit was called in to recover the disturbed human remains, ultimately totalling 57 individuals radiocarbon dating to a burial period between 679 AD to 1011 AD clearly indicating a well used cemetery of over 300 years and in all probability still holding many further former residents of Masham.
